After a long and full life, Loyal E. Birchell passed away on November 22, 2011 at the age of 96. We are grateful for his good life and that he can return home now. We know that there are many on the other side who have looked forward to his return. Grandpa Birchell was a good man. It was an honor to attend his funeral and be with our family to celebrate the amazing life he lived. He had such an impact on Steven's life and will be greatly missed.
On the Saturday after Thanksgiving we traveled down to Utah for the funeral and burial. The day took more of an emotional toil on the kids than I thought it would - especially on Matt. But it was a pleasure to be with family and enjoy this time together as well. We especially enjoyed the graveside service with the 21 gun salute by the American Legion.
We stopped on the way home to see the lights at Temple Square. We were all pretty worn out from the long day. The traffic was crazy and there were so many people but I am still glad we stopped by and let the kids see this amazing sight.
