my little fishies

Matt and Ella have had swim lessons for the past two weeks. We are a bit behind in lessons, for several reasons...First off they just don't get much chance to swim and practice at all. We go a few times a year but that is about it. Secondly we didn't take any classes last year because we were busy getting a new baby. So we signed them up this spring and hoped for the best. The timing was perfect. It was hot and and their lessons were right before lunch. So while Grace and I would literally bake on the hot concrete at the side of the pool, the kids kept cool while swimming. Then we would all head to the park for lunch afterward. Thank goodness the park was shady!

Though swimming lessons were only a half hour long it felt like it consumed our whole day. By the time we got up and got ready for the day it was about time to head out for swimming, and then with having lunch at the park, we generally got home around 2:00 most days. But we really didn't have much else going on so I am glad we did it.

As far as the lessons went, Matt LOVED them and did so well. Totally breezed through his class and did awesome. He has become a super swimmer. Yeah!

Ella loved the IDEA of swimming lessons and talked about them for months but actually participating in class was something entirely different. She really is just a very shy little girl and apparently doing ring around the roses and jumping into her teacher's arms in the deep end was just too much for her. She did get much better towards the end and so we have high hopes for next summer when she is more familiar with all of it.

I forgot to take my camera until the last day when they really just let the kids play but here are a few shots of our little swimmers:
