Well this past week was Matt's first spring break. Though as a kindergartener he is generally more excited about going to school than not. We had no plans for the break but I had thought of taking the kids to the park, riding bikes, playing outside, etc. All sorts of fun springy things. Winter has been long and we have all be cooped up inside for too long. We were all ready to enjoy some sunshine out doors.
However it was not to be. It was a very cold, rainy, windy week. Each day Matt had high hopes of taking his bike for a spin and every day we woke up to cold, bad weather. He was so disappointed.
And Ella makes a mad dash whenever the front door is opened and heads right for the street. By about the time she hits the grass on a full out run we scoop her up and bring her back despite the thrashing legs and arms and high pitched screams of dismay.
As much as we all wanted to play outside it was just not very nice to be outside. So we stayed inside and made the most of it. We played games, had a play day with friends, went to the library and read our new books. and ate too much easter candy.
On Friday Matt had his first soccer practice of the spring season and sure enough it was cold, rainy and wet, again. I sat on the sidelines with the wind and rain beating against my umbrella. Really fun. After about 30 minutes they called it quits and we all ran for cover.
By Saturday my energy in keeping the kids entertained and happy had greatly diminished. I didn't even bother with making Matt get dressed or in doing much with Ella's hair other than just getting it out of her eyes. And by the afternoon we had had it. We escaped the house. It was only 45 degrees outside but at least the sun was shining and wind wasn't blowing. We bundled up, Matt got on his bike in his pajamas no less, and I pushed Ella and her wild hair in the stroller and we took off for the park.
